Background for projects in Afghanistan

In 2002, the leader of the Afghan organization, ASCHIANA, engineer Mohammed Yousef, composes the document “Project Proposal of Sport”.

In the document a wish for international aid to start sports activities – especially for girls – and to educate sports teachers at ASCHIANA’s six centers for street working children in Kabul is expressed. At that time the girls had no possibilities to practice sports.

In June 2003, the Danish NGO Afghan MMCC (Mobile Mini Circus for Children in Afghanistan) takes the initiative for this sports project at ASCHIANA children’s center. Four Danish sports teachers and a Danish-Afghan interpreter volunteer to build up a sports environment at ASCHIANA.

The personal contacts and the knowledge about ASCHIANA through MMCC give the volunteers the experience and the motivation to establish a separate NGO and to start a sports project at ASCHIANA. And so in 2004 GES is established. Today MMCC and GES work as separate NGO’s.
